Keep What Counts

Hello Friends,

There's something about the year's end that naturally invites reflection. We start thinking about what went well, what we'd do differently, and how we can step into the next season with clarity and intention, making room for what matters most, and choosing to keep what counts.

Keeping what counts is about creating the life we truly want to be living. It's clearing away our clutter - internally and externally - and prioritizing the people and practices that keep us grounded and growing, with permission to let go of the rest.

We collect so much over a year - habits, expectations, even versions of ourselves that might have fit once but feel heavy now. When we let go of what's weighing us down, we give ourselves room to fully bloom.

At first, small, physical actions, like tidying a corner in our home, donating a few things we no longer use, deleting old digital files that take up more mental space than storage space, can often spark emotional actions as well. We might find that as we clear space in our surroundings, we also clear space in our mind. Just like physical clutter, emotional clutter can build up quietly - unrealistic expectations, old regrets, or endless self-criticism. Letting go doesn't mean forgetting, necessarily; it means choosing freedom from those burdens.

Let's ponder on and answer a few questions:

  • What principles or virtues guide my decisions?

  • What/who energizes, nourishes, and strengthens me?

  • What practices keep me learning, growing, and progressing?

  • What boundaries protect my peace and energy?

  • What are my "non-negotiables"?

There are no wrong answers here. These questions help us determine what's most meaningful to us. Once we know that, it becomes much easier to live in alignment with it. Keeping what counts looks different for everyone. For some, it might mean slowing down and protecting rest. For others, it could mean setting new boundaries, reconnecting with loved ones, or finally taking that leap toward a dream. This is a personal process. Even one, small, intentional shift can change the tone of our whole year.

As we begin to turn the page, let's pause long enough to notice how far we've come. We've learned, stretched, and grown more than we realize. Now, let's take what counts into the next chapter. Let's go forward with clarity, calm, and courage, optimistic about the possibilities before us that we're making room for.

Remember that this life and each day is a gift. We are remarkable, capable children of God and He loves us so much. We are born to bloom. We are growing into our best selves as we clear the clutter and keep what counts.

We're in this together,

ree
